Synqed vs KDE Connect
Both connect an Android phone to a desktop over your own network, with no cloud in between. They are built for different jobs. This page says which is which, including where KDE Connect is the better answer.
The short version
KDE Connect is a cross-platform remote-control toolkit. It runs on Linux, Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, Plasma Mobile and SailfishOS, it is free software, and it does things Synqed does not attempt: your phone as a trackpad, a presentation remote, custom commands run on the desktop, controlling desktop playback from the phone.
Synqed is a Mac app for using your phone from your Mac. Two platforms, and one direction. Calls, messages and notifications arrive on the phone and you deal with them on the Mac, in the places macOS already puts things: the notch, Notification Centre, the menu bar.
If you want your phone to drive your desktop, KDE Connect. If you want your Mac to answer your phone, Synqed.
Where they actually differ
Phone calls
- Synqed
- Answer, decline, mute and redial from the Mac. Incoming calls arrive in a banner that grows out of the notch, and the call log syncs with one-tap redial.
- KDE Connect
- The telephony plugin shows a notification for an incoming call and can pause media while it rings. Handling the call stays on the phone.
SMS
- Synqed
- Threaded conversations on the Mac, sending included, pushed live as messages arrive. Compose to any number, dual-SIM aware.
- KDE Connect
- Sending from the desktop and receiving from the phone are both supported, each documented as a one-way feature.
Notifications

- Mirrored into Notification Centre with the real app icons, two-way actions and inline reply, a per-app mute list over your whole app catalogue, named Do Not Disturb profiles, seven days of history and an on-device daily digest.

Where KDE Connect is the better choice
Plainly: often. Pick KDE Connect if you use Linux or Windows, if you want software you can read and modify, if you need your phone to act as an input device or a presentation remote, or if you have devices on more than the two platforms Synqed supports. Synqed has no answer to any of that and is not going to.
It has also been around years longer, with far more people looking at the code.
Where Synqed is the better choice
On a Mac, for phone continuity, because that is all it is built for. A call arrives in the notch and you answer it there instead of getting a notification about a call. Muting an app means picking it off a list of everything installed on the phone. The daily digest of what you missed is written on your Mac by Apple's own on-device model, so nothing leaves the machine.
The security model is the same shape as KDE Connect's and worth stating: pairing is confirmed by comparing a numeric code derived from an ECDH exchange, traffic is AES-256-GCM over your LAN, session keys are fresh per connection, and there is no relay server or account anywhere in it. What Synqed does not do
The same list that's on every other page, because it doesn't change for a comparison:
- Call audio stays on the phone. Synqed controls the call; it does not route the audio to your Mac.
- Same network only. No relay server means no out-of-LAN mode.
- Android is in closed testing. The Mac app is signed, notarised and downloadable now. The Android side admits testers by hand, so joining means a form and an email rather than an instant install.
